João Filipe Alves is Head of Security at the National Communications Authority (ANACOM) and Vice-President of the Communications Emergency Planning Commission (CPEC). Previously, he served as Coordinator of the Regulation, Supervision, and Certification Department at the National Cybersecurity Centre (CNCS). During Portugal’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union, he was Chair of the NIS Cooperation Group and President of the CyCLONe network. He began his career as a software engineer, having worked at Critical Software, Portugal Telecom, and Siemens. He holds a degree in Computer Engineering from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon and a postgraduate qualification in Information Security from the same institution.
